Would you buy a damaged camera?
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:15:03 PM »
So I'm trying to justify buying a new D700 and Im having trouble doing so. I was looking at used ones on ebay earlier and came across a damaged one, looks like it was dropped on maybe a asphalt incline or something similar. It comes with a damaged lens also. Since it wont bring as much as one that is in immaculate condition I was wanting to see some professional opinions on it. I just shoot for fun, but want something better than my D60.

Here is a link

Given the complexity and difficulty of repairing modern micro-electronics, and the fact that DSLRs are literally wrapped in them, I would be reluctant to purchase a camera with such extensive damage. Besides, you know the weather seals are basically shot on that camera and it will be exposed to the elements.

All I needed to know, Ill let someone else have it. Thanks!

unless it came with some kind of guarantee, and/or some sort of money back/return policy, I wouldn't gamble my money on it. (8t)

If you could get it for $50, might be worth the gamble, but I wouldn't go any higher than that.

EDIT:
Just saw that the current minimum bid is $2500????? (shox) (shox) (shox)
They claim "Camera is in good condition and is fully functional"  But are they camera experts?  Have they tested EVERY function?  Have they examined the pics to see if they are in focus/proper exposure, etc..etc..etc...
I sure wouldn't spend $2500 when you can get one new for $2200-2500.  yes, the lens in new condition is worth 1600, but in THAT condition....not to me.

I can't believe that people are bidding that much for a camera that may likely brick itself at any time. I'd rather have a new in box D90!
