The contrast between the folks sitting and waiting for a delivery / loading job and the modern construction seen in Dubai are very very striking.   Aside from oil revenue, does Dubai bring in signifigant dollars from tourism yet?   I know they have some rather interesting shaped reefs and hotels in places.    I hear they are also planning on building an even bigger building, one that would make that new tower in your photographs look like a flower in a forest.

Sidenote, this might make for an interesting read for those who like tall towers (in Dubai) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Dubai

Most of their non-oil money comes from business.  EVERYONE has an office here.  Tourism is growing, and that's their long-range plan.  I've seen all sorts of stories and reports on their plans.  Amazing!

More from Dubai (again, taken "under cover" wide open on my 1.4/50 at ISO 800, so excuse the poor quality).

Is that a young girl in the top shots...she looks old enough that she could get in trouble for having her face exposed.  Or am I in the wrong country?

I'm guessing she was around 20 or so.  The "laws" here are fairly relaxed, and the covering of the head and face for women is optional.  Many choose to, but lots don't either.

It was 33C and humid in Montreal yesterday. Consequently, the scenery on St-Catherine street was just outstanding!  cheers
